"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

In a large sauce pan, mix the 2 cans of tomato paste and add 3 or 4 cans of water. Mix thoroughly. Put the tomatoes in a blender and blend until they resemble tomato sauce. Combine with the tomato paste and mix well. Add salt, pepper and sugar (approximately 1 tsp) and stir in the oregano, Italian seasoning and basil. Simmer on low to medium heat until mixture becomes thick. (at least 4 - 6 hours) Stir frequently. Add in the meatballs the last 30 - 45 minutes of cooking time.

I started making this back in the mid to late 1960's. Has always been a family favorite!
Grandpa Harris' version was jarred spaghetti sauce but he used the same meatball recipe.
