• 1.5 cups of butter
• 1 cup sugar
• 2 egg yolks
• 1 tablespoon milk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• ½ teaspoon baking soda
• ½ teaspoon salt
• Lightly salted cashew halves
• 2 egg whites, slightly
• ¼ cup of additional sugar (for sprinkling)

ln a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Beat in the egg yolks, milk and extracts. combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture. Cover and refrigerate dough for an hour or until its easy to handle.

On a lightly floured surface roll out dough to 1/inch thickness. Cut with a floured 3-inch star cutter. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets. Press a half moon shaped cashew piece in the center of each. Brush with egg white; sprinkle with sugar.

Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.

I found this recipe years ago in a small, paperback "Taste of Home" Christmas Cookie cook book. I substituted cashews for almonds, because I like cashews. And also because a perfect cashew half is shaped liked a half moon, giving you the moon & stars in a single cookie!
