4 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup vegetable shortning
2 eggs
2 cups brown sugar, packed
2/3 cups buttermilk
1 cup pecans, chopped
2 cups dates, chopped
1 cup candied cherries, chopped
8 ounces candied fruits and peel.

Sift flour with salt and soda. Cream sugar, shortning, add eggs, milk and flour mixture. Blend in fruit and nuts. Chill several hours or overnight. Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 until lightly browned
