1 C. granulated sugar, plus more for rolling cookies
¾ C. butter at room temp
1 egg
3 T. molasses
2 C. flour, sifted
1 t. baking soda
1 1/2 t. ground ginger
1 1/2 t. cinnamon
3/4 t.ground cloves
3/4 t. nutmeg
1/2 t. salt
1 C. powdered sugar
1 T. water
1 t. lemon juice


Directions:

In large bowl cream 1 C. granulated sugar with butter until fluffy...about 3 minutes.
Mix in egg and molasses.
In medium bowl sift together flour, baking soda and spices.
Add to butter mixture and blend well.
Fill a shallow bowl with granulated sugar.
Roll walnut sizes pieces into balls. Roll balls in sugar.
Arrange on greased cookie sheet and bake about 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
Transfer to cooling racks.
Makes about 40 cookies.

Meanwhile make glaze of powdered sugar, and 1 T. of water and stir until smooth, then stir in lemon juice.
Drizzle glaze over cooled cookies.

Instead of balling the dough I use a cookie scoop to dip out dough so they are more uniform.
