1 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
½ c. brown sugar
3 eggs
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening well. Gradually add sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add sifted flour, baking soda and salt gradually. Blend vanilla into flour mixture. Shape cookies into balls the size of walnuts. Flatten with a fork. Bake on un-greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350º for 10 min. Cookies may be decorated w/walnut halves or maraschino cherries for a holiday look.
