2 c. dates, finely cut
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. waater
1/2 c. nuts

1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs
1/2 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. soda
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. instant coffee

Directions:
Directions:
Put dates, brown sugar, water and nuts in saucepan. Heat, stirring constantly until dates are softened.

Combine shortening and sugar and crème. Add eggs, water and vanilla. Beat until completely blended. Add flour, soda and cinnamon plus instant coffee blend thoroughly.

Roll out dough and cut into circles. Add date mixture and fold over and seal. Bake at 350* for 10-15 minutes. Recipe was unclear about cooking time, so watch carefully.
