2 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda in 2 tbsp water
3 cups sifted flour
1 tsp cream of tarter
1 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
"Make in roll and chill overnight. In morning cut with dull knife and bake."

Basically the same concept as pinwheel cookies, only easier. Don't know why baking soda needs to be mixed in water. Cream the shortening and brown sugar first; then egg and water. Add dry ingredients. Wrap in plastic or wax paper to form the roll.
