1 Cup Butter, softened
1½ Cups Confectioner's Sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon Vanilla
3 Cups Flour, sifted
¼ tsp Salt

Choose a filling:
Candied or Maraschino Cherries dried well
pitted date
Gum drop
Unsweetened chocolate


Directions:
Directions:
mix butter, confectioner's sugar and vanilla. Then mixing with your hand, add flour and salt.
Take one round spoonful of cookie dough and surround one of the filings above (cherry, date, etc) and make a ball.Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake until set but not brown.
Dip tops of warm cookies in icing and sprinkle jimmies, coconut, or candies on top.
