¾ to 1 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
3 cups flour (scant)
2 eggs well beaten
½ tsp vanilla
½ tsp cream of tartar
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt

Directions:
Mix well. Form in a roll about 1½" and chill in refrigerator. (I usually wrap in waxed paper so they can be kept for days and baked whenever you "need" cookies.) Slice and place half a maraschino cherry in centre. Bake at 400º - time depends on how thin you slice them - keep an eye on them.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Mrs. Jarret was a friend of Grandma Heximer. Grandma made these for me every Christmas and I found them in the green ceramic cookie jar.
