1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 cup soured milk*
1 cup dates cup up (optional).
2 cups brown sugar
3 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup broken walnuts
2 cups raisins
*To sour milk, add 2 tsps vinegar to 1/2 c milk

Directions:
Directions:
Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together ;add to creamed mixture alternately with sour milk. Add nuts and fruits, drop by teaping teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in 375 degree oven for 10-12 minutes.
