¾ c. shortening
1 c. sugar
⅓ c. molasses
1 egg, beaten
2 ½ c. flour, sifted
¼ tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. ginger
Additional sugar to roll dough in

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 F. In a mixing bowl cream shortening and sugar then add the beaten egg and molasses. Add flour, spices, and baking soda. Roll dough into golf ball sized balls and roll in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. For chewy cookies bake for 8 minutes and let rest on the cookie sheet before removing to cooling rack. For "SNAP" cookies bake for 10-12 minutes.
