2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
½ cup unsalted butter
¼ cup cocoa
1 cup water
¼ tsp salt
½ oil
1 tsp soda
½ cup buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla

Frosting
½ cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
6 tablespoons buttermilk
¼ cup cocoa
1 lb. sifted confectioner’s sugar
½ cup chopped pecans

Cake:
Preheat oven to 350˚. Grease and flour a 13x9 pan. Combine flour, sugar, and salt in mixing bowl. Bring water, butter, oil, and cocoa to a boil. Fold into dry ingredients. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk. Add to mixture. Beat in eggs one at a time. Pour into pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes.

Frosting:
Melt butter in saucepan. Add cocoa and buttermilk. Bring to a boil. Whisk in sugar. Add vanilla and pecans. Pour over warm cake. After it has cooled the frosting will be firm, and you can cut into squares.

Bug gave this recipe to me over the phone from memory. She said Crisco (shortening), but I’ve always used oil.
