1.) 2 large rutabaga

2.) 1 1/2 stick butter

3.) salt

Directions:
1.) Wash the outside of the rutabaga

2.) Peel and cut into small pieces

3.) Place rutabaga into pot with (plenty of) cold water and (little) salt

4.) Bring to a boil-usually takes about one hour (or until rutabaga is soft)

5.) Drain water and return rutabaga into pot

6.) Add 1 1/2 stick of butter with salt

7.) Thoroughly mash rutabaga (using potato masher)

8.) Ready to serve

Recipe from my Grandma Della McGuire, native of Cloonfad, County Roscommon, Ireland. My mom said she brought the recipe with her "from the old country" in 1922. It's been a family favorite for generations. Always a hit at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
