Cookies:
1 cup melted shortening
1/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup molasses
3 cups flour
2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp ginger

Date mixture:
1 cup chopped pitted dates
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water

Directions:
Directions:
For cookies:
Mix in order given. Form into rolls , wrap in wax paper and chill. When firm, slice 1/8 inch thick.
For filling:
Mix dates, sugar and water in saucepan and cook about 15 minutes. Let cool.
Assemble 2 cookies together with a layer of date filling. Place on coookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
