Directions:
Combine oil, butter, both sugars, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt. Add flour mixture to wet mixture and combine. Cover and chill dough overnight. When ready to bake, heat oven to 350º. Roll dough into small balls. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Dip a small glass into sugar and slightly flatten the balls of cookie dough. Bake for approximately 12 minutes. Let rest on cookie sheet for 1 minute then move to cooling rack to finish cooling.

*The first time you flatten a cookie with the glass dipped in sugar, dip the glass in the cookie dough first. This gives something for the sugar to stick to.

Grandma Evelyn got this recipe from a co-worker at Herrin Hospital. It quickly became a family favorite and was a must for the Christmas cookie tray. Her great grandchildren still request this special cookie often.
