1/2 c hard peppermint candy, crushed (big round candies that melt in mouth easier)
1/2 c sugar
DOUGH:
1 c softened butter
1 c powdered sugar
1 beaten egg
1 t salt
1 1/2 t almond ext
1 t vanilla
2 1/2 c flour
1/2 c red food coloring

Directions:

PREHEAT 375º.
In med bowl, combine butter, powdered sugar, egg, salt, and ext. Stir. Add flour gradually and stir each addition. Round up dough and divide in half. Blend red food coloring in 1 of halves. Remove 1 t white and roll 4" strip, same with red. Twist together like rope. Pinch ens. Place on ungreased sheet. Keep dough bowls covered with plastic so won't dry out. Bake 9 min. Immediately remove from sheet and place on wire rack with foil under. Sprinkle with candy and sugar mix while very hot.
