2 1/2 C all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 C butter
1/2 C shortening
1 C packed brown sugar
1/2 C granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 12 oz package (2 cups) semisweet chocolate chips
1 C chopped walnuts or pecans if desired

Directions:

Stir together flour, baking soda, and salt. In a mixer bowl beat butter and shortening on medium speed of electric mixer for 30 seconds. Add sugars and beat till fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture, beating till well combined. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts (if desired). Drop from a teaspoon 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in oven at 375ºF for 8-10 minutes or until done. Remove and cool.
