3 Cups of sugar
3 Sticks of Blue Bonnet Margarine
3 Cups of Gold Medal All Purpose Flour
5 eggs
2 Tablespoons of Pure Lemon Extract
3/4 Cup of 7 Up

Directions:
Cream together sugar and margarine in mixer for about 20 minutes. Then add eggs one at a time, and mix well. Gradually add sifted flour to batter, stirring with a spatula first to avoid flour from coming out of the mixing bowl, and turning the cook and kitchen white. Add lemon extract, then 7 up last. Grease a tube pan with Crisco, and then lightly flour the pan. Add batter to tube pan, and then shake pan side to side to evenly distribute in pan before putting in oven. Place in a 325 degree oven for about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Check cake with a toothpick to see if it is done, bake a few minutes longer if toothpick does not come out clean.

Personal Notes:
This cake is famous in Maryland. It was a tradition every Christmas to make these cakes for our friends and some of Greg's co-workers. Our list grew every year, and at one time, we were baking 75 cakes all delivered the first 2 weeks before Christmas with an ornament and bow attached from The Straight's. Greg, my biggest fan, said the cakes were considered the "gold ticket". Our friends were really sad to see Denise return to South Georgia, because the long distance cake baking finally came to a halt about a year or two ago, or at least, the list shrunk to a very select few. Now, Denise bakes cakes for Pit Stop Bar-B-Que & Grill.
