2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups lard (in today's world, use shortening)
1 box raisins
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons cloves
1 1/2 teaspoons nutmeg
2 cups water
2 teaspoons baking soda and 1/2 cup water, mixed together
1 cup black walnuts
About 2 cups all-purpose flour

Directions:
Mix all ingrediants, except flour, in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool. Grease and flour cake pan. Set oven on 300 degrees. Mix flour into cooled contents of pan; pour into cake pan. Bake about 1 hr and 15 min.
