3 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Combine flour, baking powder, soda, salt & nutmeg. Beat butter 30 seconds; add sugar; beat until fluffy. Add eggs & vanilla; beat well; alternately add dry ingredients & buttermilk, beating until well blended. Cover & chill 2 hours. Divide in half. working with 1/2 at a time on a floured surface; roll into a 10 x 5" rectangle. With a sharp knife, cut into 20-5 1/2" strips. Roll each strip to form a 10" long rope. Shape into a loop crossing 1 1/2" from ends of rope. Twist rope at crossing point. Fold loop over ends and seal, forming a pretzel shape. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 425 for 5 minutes or until lightly browned on bottom. Remove & cool.

Grandma used to make these at Christmas. I don't make them every Christmas, but do occasionally make them. They're kind of time consuming but they are really good, especially when dipped in coffee or tea.
