1 cake yeast
1 1/2 c. scalded milk-cooled
1 T. sugar
4 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 c. sugar
3 T. butter
1/2 tsp. mace
2 eggs. well beaten
3/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast & sugar in lukewarm milk add half the flour & beat well. Cover & set aside to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until bubbles burst on the top. Cream butter & sugar; add mace, eggs & remainder of flour to make a soft dough & lastly the salt; then knead lightly. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise again in a warm place for about 1 1/2 hours. Turn onto a floured board & roll out about 1/4 inch thick. Cut with small doughnut cutter. Cover & let rise again in warm place 45 minutes or until light. Drop in hot fat with side uppermost which has been next to board.
