Cheese Sauce


Ingredients:

½ stick butter
I cup sweet onion, chopped
8 ounce can of mushrooms, diced. (drain the liquid and save)
8 ounce can of water chestnuts, drained and chopped
5-6 cans of green beans, drained
1 large can French onions

Directions:
Directions:
In a large pan melt the butter, add the mushrooms, onions and chestnuts and cook lightly and set aside.
 

Cheese Sauce

1 stick butter
2/3 c.flour
3/4 t. pepper
1 tsp. salt
1/2 T. soy sauce
1 c. milk
1 c. mushroom liquid (saved)
2-3 c. grated cheese, velvetta or cheddar

Directions:
Directions:
In a saucepan melt the butter and blend in the flour. Add salt, pepper, soy sauce, milk and mushroom liquid. Stir until a smooth, thick sauce. If too thick add a small amount of milk....too thin add a little more flour and/or cheese. Put the drained beans in a bowl, add the onions, mushrooms and chestnuts. With a spatula, stir in the cheese sauce until well blended. Put the mixture in a buttered casserole dish and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and put a generous layer of French onions on top. Return to the oven and bake another 10 minutes or until bubbly and top layer is slightly browned.
