Bread Pudding Recipe

3 cups bread cubes
3 cups milk
3 T. butter
¼ plus ⅛ cup sugar
3 eggs
¼ tsp. salt
1 T. vanilla
apple slices or raisins (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Tear bread into chunks and place in a buttered casserole.
Scald milk with butter & sugar.
Beat eggs slightly, add salt
Then stir into the warm milk and add vanilla.
Pour over bread
Set dish in a pan containing warm water up to the pudding level.
Bake at 350º for 1 hour or until silver knife comes out clean when inserted in center of pudding

I like to sprinkle nutmeg or cinnamon on also.
Nice served with whipped cream or lemon, vanilla or butterscotch sauce.
