2 ¼ c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda (dissolved in 2 tsp hot water)
1 c. soft margarine/butter
¾ c. white sugar
¾ c. packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
2 c. chocolate chips
¾ c. nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350º

Combine flour and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla, baking soda/water in large bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts.
Drop by rounded tablespoon onto lightly greased baking sheets.

Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Dissolving the baking soda in hot water is a trick I learned from the Farm. The cookies rise a bit more-- the cookie is soft on the inside and crisp on the outside.
