1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg
1/2 cup boiling water
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 1/2 cups flour

Sprinkle of sugar for tops (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350

Cream the sugars, shortening, egg and molasses together.

Now add the baking soda to the hot water in a bowl to dissolve the soda well, add a bit of salt.

Combine all of the above and add all the dry ingredients, using a mixer to reach a just manageable texture ( not to thin).

The mixture may be chilled or used right away.

Cookies may be dropped or rolled.

Bake till done not over baked.
