Twelve tbsp. sugar
1½ tbsp. cornstarch
¾ cup water
4 egg whites
¼ tsp. salt
¾ tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine 3 tbsp. sugar and cornstarch in a small saucepan. Add the water and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick and clear. Set aside to cool.
Beat egg whites, add salt and vanilla until soft mounds form. Gradually add 9 tbsp. sugar, beating well after each addition. Continue beating as cornstarch mixture is added until meringue stands in still peaks. Place on top of pie filling. Bake at 400º until golden brown (approximately 8 to 10 minutes).
