One-half cup butter or shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp. vanilla or lemon extract
1 tbsp. milk
2 1/4 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375º.
Cream butter, add sugar and continue creaming until well blended. Add beaten eggs, flavoring, and milk. Mix well.
Sift together flour, baking power, baking soda, and salt. Add dry ingredients to egg mixture and mix well. Cover and chill dough until stiff.
Roll into balls and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Flatten the balls with the bottom of a floured water glass. Sprinkle each cookie with sugar. Baked in the oven 8 to 12 minutes until done.
