Vegetable Oil for frying

3 1/2 c. all purpose flour

1c. sugar

3 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/4 tsp. nutmeg

2 T. shortening

2 eggs



3/4 c. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Carefully, Heat cooking oil in deep fryer.

Mix together 1 1/2 c. flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg.

Beat in shortening, eggs, milk on low speed scrapping sides of bowl often.

Beat on medium speed for 2 1/2 minutes.

Add remaining flour and beat until mixed well.

Turn dough out on well floured surface.

Roll out to 3/4 inch thick and cut out donuts shapes with donut cutter.

Using metal spoon or spatula, slowly slide donut shaped dough into 375º hot oil.

Turn donut over as it browns on each side approx. 1 minute on each side.

Remove from oil and place on paper towel to drain.

Serve plain or cover with frosting or Glaze.

This donut recipe can be adjusted to make multiple different types of donuts. You can be creative with toppings and glazes. Try maple flavored Glaze with crushed pecans on top. Any variety of toppings.
