1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla
4-5 T milk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together flour, soda, salt, and set aside. Cream butter, beat in brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Continue beating until light and fluffy.

Gradually beat in flour mixture. Drop by tablespoons, rolled into balls in your hand. Flatten on the greased cookie sheet about 3 1/2 inches apart.

Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Place on rack to cool. Then frost.

Frosting: Mix sugar, butter, vanilla, and milk. Beat until well blended. You can color frosting different colors for different hollidays. Write a popular saying or make a design on these "buttons."

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
If you don't flatten, they scorch on the bottom and do not cook through. Also, by flattening them, you have a large, thin cookie that you can frost and write on. This recipe is from the 60s when the buttons said "peace," "love," and "rock and roll."
