Notes from Grandma:

"I usually light my oven 20 minutes ahead of time and get it real hot, and when I put the cake in the oven I put the thermastat (sic) to 350. I found that by doing this my cake rises very good in the first 15 minutes. Sometimes my cake is done in 45 minutes, but watch it as the top may be done by the inside will be uncooked, so don't be in a hurry to take it out, although I think in 50 minutes its usually alright to take out.

As far as the butter goes I never use a full cup, maybe a little more than half will do it. Just use your judgment."
