Ingredients: 2 cups flour 4 tsps baking powder 2 tablespoons sugar 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup butter 1 egg 3/4 cup milk

Directions:Preheat oven to 400°. Blend flour and baking powder in a mixing bowl. Add salt and sugar. Mix. Add shortening/butter. Blend with pastry blender until the mixture is coarse and resembles peas. Beat the egg in the milk (should equal 1 cup - if not, add milk to 1 cup) and add slowly to mixture. Mix well. the dough should be soft and moist but not wet and sticky. Roll out onto floured surface and handle as little as possible. Flatten dough to about 3/4' thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter. Bake in oven for about 12 minutes until golden. Serve with butter, molasses, honey or strawberry jam.
Cinnamon Rolls: Prepare pastry as above. Roll out or flatten with hands. Spread butter over mixture, sprinkle very generously with brown sugar and cinnamon over the butter. Roll dough up so it looks like a log. Cut cinnamon rolls of log and place cut side up on a baking sheet. Cook 10-15 minutes until golden.
