1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla

5 oz. sliced almonds (2 ½ oz more if you want almonds on top)
6 oz. chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Prepare cookie sheets: Line each with foil.

Spread almonds in a thin, even layer, on cookie sheets.

Put first four ingredients in heavy sauce pan. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until candy thermometer reaches 300 degrees (you MUST use a candy thermometer)

Pour toffee mixture over almonds

Cool for 1 minute, then sprinkle chocolate chips over the toffee. Wait a few minutes until chocolate softens, then spread evenly over toffee with a flat-edge knife.

Grind remaining almonds and sprinkle over chocolate.

Cool. Then break into bite size pieces and store in airtight container until ready to serve.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Lorie usually makes a double recipe so that the toffee is thicker. To do so, double the first four ingredients. Jennifer makes as noted above. Either way, Mom and anyone else who tastes it, say it's DELICIOUS!
