1st PART: 2 Cups Flour
⅔ Cup Milk
2 teaspoons Baking Powder
⅔ Cup Sugar
½ teaspoon Salt
2 Tablespoons Shortening

2nd PART: 1 ¼ Cup canned Fruit
1 ⅓ Cups Juice & Hot Water
At least ½ Cup of Sugar-depending on tartness of fruit-may need more
1 Tablespoon Butter or Margarine

1 Part: Sift flour, baking powder, salt & sugar into mixing bowl. Add milk & shortening & stir until smooth. Spread in greased pan.

2nd PART: Put drained sliced fruit-any kind may be used such as Peaches, Cherries, Blue Berries, Black Berries, etc. over top of batter. Mix juice, water and sugar together & pour over fruit & batter. Dot with butter. Bake at 375º approximately 30 minutes or until batter is of cake texture.

Joey, your Great-Grandmother, Helen Burkett, use to make this for our family when Uncle Biggie and I were growing up. Sometimes she would even add a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top while the cobbler was still warm. YUM. She used peaches most of the time for the fruit.
