2 c. oil
1 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 oranges, juiced
1/2 lemon, juiced
Zest of 1 orange and 1 lemon
vanilla powder
Cinnamon
5-6 ground cloves
1 c. cognac or ouzo
7-6 c. self-raising flour (may take more)
Crushed walnuts to sprinkle over (Can also insert into the center of the dough as they are being made.

Syrup:
3 c. sugar
1 c. honey
2 1/2 c. water
1/4 c. lemon juice
Cinnamon stick or cinnamon
4-5 cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Beat oil and sugar. Add eggs and beat well.
Add cognac, vanilla powder, cinnamon, orange juice, lemon juice, zest, ground cloves.
Mix well.
In a big bowl, combine this mixture with the flour. Add flour slowly until it makes a medium texture dough.
Take a piece of dough the size of a walnut and form into oval shapes. The mixture will feel oily. That's fine.
Bake at 210 degrees. Your oven may vary.

Syrup:
Dissolve sugar and honey in the water. Add cloves, lemon juice, and cinnamon stick.
Dip cooled Melomakarona in hot syrup turning a few times.
Remove with slotted label. Sprinkle walnuts, sugar if desired and cinnamon on top.

Note - either the syrup is hot or the biscuits. Not both or they will go mushy.
