1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
3 c. quick oats
1 c. raisins (optional)
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Oven - 400º.

Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs together until light and fluffly.
Stir in milk.
Sift dry ingredients together. Stir dry into cream mixture.
Stir in oats, raisins, and nuts.
Drop from tablespoon, 2 " apart on greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 8 min.

Makes 5 dozen.
