Ingredients:  
2 quarts of ripe ( or large.. yellowing) cucumbers
peeled ... seeds removed...and diced...
4 medium-sized onions, peeled and diced
3 red peppers, diced...
Sprinkle a small handful of salt over this
Let bowl stand overnight on counter, covered with a plate

In the morning:
Scald (or boil) the bowl contents, as is ...in its own juices for 5 minutes.
Drain and rinse in cold water...
(pushing down on 'cukes' in colander to help push out liquid)

Add 2 ½ cups sugar
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 cup cider vinegar
Cook until tender and seal while hot, in pint jars

or when you make a meal with mashed potatoes and gravy ...

There it is..it's grandma's apron
hanging neatly by the door
it's crisp and white, and hangs there
like it always has before...
how could it know

she's found a brand new home
a place with wildwood flowers
where the ageless Son has shone
