1 cup sugar
2 cups finely diced apples
1 egg
1 t. baking soda
1 cup sifted flour
½ to 1 t. cinnamon
½ cup nuts
Directions:
Directions:
Pour sugar over apples and let stand until dissolved. Add egg and beat well. Beat in remaining dry ingredients and nuts. Pour into 8 inch square pan. Bake in 350º oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
 

Sauce

½ cup sugar
½ cup firmly packed brown sugar
½ cup butter
½ cup whipping cream
1 t. vanilla

In 1 quart saucepan, combine all sauce ingredients except vanilla. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Boil 1 minute. Stir in vanilla. Serve over cake slices.
