1/2 cup shortening
1 cup light brown sugar
1 1/2 oz. squares unsweetened melted chocolate
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3 Tablespoons sour milk
1 tsp. soda

Directions:
Directions:
Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and beat well. Add chocolate and vanilla. Mix well. Stir in nuts. Sift dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternately with sour milk. Shape into rolls. Roll in wax paper. Chill thoroughly or overnight.
Slice thin. Bake on greased cookie sheet in hot oven. 400º for 10 minutes.
