1 c poppy seed [ground] 1 1/2 c milk
1 1/2 c sugar 1/2 c butter
2 tsp baking powder 2 c flour
4 egg whites, beaten 1 tsp vanilla
CUSTARD FILLING:
1/3 c flour 7/8 c sugar
1/8 tsp salt 2 c scalded milk, stir til smooth.
POPPYSEED FILLING:
1 c ground poppyseed 1 cup milk
3 Tbl Karo syrup 2 Tbl butter 1/3 c sugar
BOILED FROSTING:
1 c brown sugar 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/4 c water 1 egg white

Cake:
Heat 1/2 of milk, pour over ground poppy seed, let stand overnite or several hours. Cream butter & sugar, add poppy seed mixture, add all dry ingredients alternating with milk. Add vanilla & beaten egg whites. Pour into 2 -- 9” pans, greased and floured. Bake 350º for 30 min.
Custard:
Cook in double boiler for 15 min or till thickened, stirring constantly. Add vanilla when cool. Spread between cake layers.

Poppyseed filling:
Cook all ingredients until thick When cool, add 1 tsp vanilla
Boiled Frosting:
Boil sugar, water & cream of tartar.
Beat egg white til stiff, pour brown sugar syrup gradually over and keep beating til quite stiff.
Spread on cake.
