Ingredients: 1 10 oz package of fresh cranberries
1 Cup Sugar
1 whole orange
1/2-1 Cup walnuts (optional)

Directions: |
Directions:Cut orange into wedges and cut wedges in half. Leave on skin. Place orange, sugar, and cranberries in food processor. Pulse until desired consistency. Stopping to scrape bowl and check consistency. If desired add chopped walnuts. Store in fridge.
Jennifer Church's compote variation. Use the same ingredients but instead of processing cook all ingredients on a medium/low simmer until sugar melts, orange renders juice, and cranberries pop. Cook until it thickens slightly and fruit is broken down. You may remove orange peels or leave them in for appearance. Store in fridge. |

Notes: Every time I sought out Grandma's cranberry relish recipe I only ever managed to come across the ingredients because her written recipe doesn't have directions. It wasn't until I actually made compote instead of relish a few times that I realized it wasn't supposed to be cooked. So, now we have two family recipe variations using the same ingredients.
