3 eggs (well beaten )
1 cup of raisins
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 cup shortening (I use 1/2 margarine, 1/2 shortening)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. Salt
2 tsp. Baking soda
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Nutmeg
2 cups oatmeal
1/2-1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

THIS IS THE SECRET STEP THAT MAKES THESE SO YUMMY:::
Combine the eggs, raisins and vanilla and let soak for an hour.

Heat oven to 350º
Cream shortening and margarine with the white and brown sugars until light and fluffy. Sift flour, salt, soda, cinnamon and nutmeg together, add to creamed mixture and mix well. Blend in the egg/raisin mixture. Stir in oatmeal and nuts,
(Dough will be stiff) drop by teaspoons or cookie dipper on unpressed cookie sheet or parchment paper. I roll them in small balls, and flatten with fingers, Bake for 10-14 minutes til browned around the edges.

These are my daddy's favorite and Brady loves them too, I can remember getting these from Grandma Golbek's cookie jar. They freeze great and are so tasty with a cup of coffee
