1 tsp baking soda
2 tsps. sugar
1 tsp salt
2/3 cup raisins
1 egg
1 2/3 cups buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425 degreed.

In a large bowl, sift flour and baking soda. Add the salt, sugar, and raisins. Mix well and make a well in the center.

Break egg into measuring cup, fill with buttermilk to the 1 1/2 cups mark and mix together.

Pour most of wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Using your fingers, mix together, adding more milk if necessary. Dough should be soft but not too wet and sticky.

Do not over mix the dough. Mix as quickly and gently as possible and turn out onto a well floured surface.

Roll and pat the dough lightly into a round shape. Place on baking sheet lightly dusted with flour. Using a sharp knife, cut an X into the top of the dough.

Place into preheated oven and immediately reduce the temperature to 400 degrees. Bake for 35-40 minutes.
