½ cup shortening (or margarine)
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup white sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup flour
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup chocolate chips
½ cup chopped nuts
vanilla
cinnamon
nutmeg
cloves

Grandma (Pam Gonsalves) often used whole wheat flour and substituted carob chips for the chocolate chips.

Directions:
Original recipe said to bake greased pan at 375ºF for 10-15 minutes. However, 12 minutes at 350ºF seems to work best.
