2 c. water
1⅓ c. brown sugar
3 tbsp. butter
pinch of salt
½ tsp. cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
2½ tsp. nutmeg
1 - 2 tsp. vanilla
cornstarch

Directions:
Directions:
In top of double boiler combine water, brown sugar, butter and pinch of salt. Add spices and vanilla (more or less) according to taste. Heat until mixture comes to a simmer. Let stand 5 minutes, then thicken with cornstarch. Continue heating gently until mixture has thickened and is hot. Serve over warm Christmas pudding.
