Walnut Cake

(Note: 2 boxes of pound cake mix can be used in lieu of these ingredients)
3 cups sifted flour
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs (separated)
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
½ cup chopped black walnuts- floured

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375º
Grease and flour cake pan
Cream butter, adding sugar gradually
Add egg yolks and beat thoroughly with the milk
Add vanilla and fold in stiffly beaten egg whites and walnuts
Bake for 25 minutes
 

Caramel Walnut Cake Icing


Ingredients:  
Ingredients:  
1 ½ cups brown sugar- firmly packed
½ cup Pet Milk
¼ stick butter
1 tsp vanilla
½ cup chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar and milk in a saucepan over a high burner
Add butter, bring to boil stirring constantly then turn down the heat to low
Cook until thick (about 15 minutes), stirring frequently
Remove from heat and add vanilla and walnuts
Cool and spread onto cake

I know that Grandma Crowl made walnut cake a lot, so I am assuming this is her recipe. It came from Pat Elrod's recipe collection.
