½ cup soft shortening
½ cup butter
1½ cups sugar
2 eggs
2 ¾ cup flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º
Mix shortening, butter, and sugar until light and fluffy
Add eggs and beat well
Combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt
Add flour mixture to the butter mixture
Roll into balls the size of small walnuts
Dip top in colored sugar
Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for about 8-10 minutes
