1/2 c shortening
1 1/3 c brown sugar firmly packed
1 egg
2 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 c coarsely chopped nuts
1 c finely chopped peeled apple (2 medium)
1 c raisins
1/4 c milk
1 1/2 c confectioner sugar
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 tsp light cream or milk

Directions:

Beat together shortening and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg to blend thoroughly. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir half the dry ingredients into creamed mixture. Stir in nuts, apple and raisins. Then stir in remaining dry ingredients and milk. Mix well. Drop from tbsp. 1 1/2 inches apart onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake in 375ºF oven 10 to 12 min. Remove cookies to racks and glaze while warm.
Glaze: Combine confectioners sugar, butter, vanilla and enough cream to make a glaze of spreading consistency. Beat until smooth. Spread on warm cookies.
