½ cup butter or margarine
⅓ cup sugar
¼ tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour

Cheese filling
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
¼ cup sugar
1 egg
½ tsp. vanilla
Topping
⅓ cup sugar
½ tsp. cinnamon
4 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
¼ cup sliced almonds

Preheat the oven to 450 º
For the crust; in a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Beat in the vanilla and blend in the flour. The mixture will be somewhat crumbly, Pat the mixture into the bottom and 1/2 high around the sides of a 9" Springform pan.

For the cheese filling, in a mixing bowl beat together the cream cheese and sugar,. Add the egg and vanilla, blending well. Pour the mixture into the pastry lined pan and spread it to the edges.

For the topping: Combine the sugar and cinnamon. Toss the apples in the sugar mixture. Spoon the apples over the cream cheese layer; sprinkle the top with the almonds.
Bake 10 minutes. Reduce temperature to 400 º continue baking for 25 minutes.

Remove the torte from the oven. Run a knife around the edge to loosen the torte from the rim of the pan.
Cool before removing the torte from the pan.
