2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. EACH of baking powder and salt
Grated rind of one orange
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup orange juice
2 eggs
4 cups flour.

For the Orange Icing
2 TBS. butter softened
1 cup 10X sugar
2 TBS. Orange Juice
Grated Rind of one orange

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, orange juice. Drop by heaping teaspon onto parchment covered cookie sheets. Bake at 325 degrees for about 12 minutes. Makes between 5 and 6 dozen cookies.

Mix all icing ingredients together until smooth. Using a pastry brush spread the icing onto warm, NOT HOT, cookies!
