¾ c. shortening
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
½ c. sugar
1 egg
¼ c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. soda
3 c. quick oats, uncooked
Add chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or coconut or raisins

Cream shortening and sugars.
Add egg and blend well. Scrape sides of bowl.
Add water and vanilla.
Mix flour, salt and soda.
Add drys.
Add quick oats and blend.
Add nuts and chips. Blend briefly (you don’t want them to break down).

Bake 12-16 minutes at 375. Timing depends on size of cookie. Mom always made huge cookies.
